Ten-year-old Kia Butterfield found a packet of Class B drugs in her school bag. She left the amphetamine sulphate, or speed, on the table near where her three-year-old sister was playing.

Kia's mother phoned the police, because the drugs belonged to them. Theyhad been left by a police officer on an anti-drugs demonstration heldfor schools in Skegness. It showed how sniffer dogs worked. The officerhid three packets of the drug in Kia's bag for the dog to find, butafterwards removed only two.

Chief Supt Dave Wheeler of Lincolnshire Police did his best. He admittedwhat happened shouldn't have, then found a "positive note" for the DailyMirror. He told how pleased he was that the girl's awareness of drugsand their dangers was raised by the demonstration. He was later heardwhistling "always look on the bright side of life".
