Diana Pendrich wrote to the letters page in wonder at how the figures are arrived at. "I live in outer London and childcare for my under-two-year-old costs 258 a week," she wrote. " If (169) is an average, someone somewhere must be paying just 80 for a full-time childcare place for an under-two. Where are these cheap nurseries?"
It's always good to ask around for cheap nurseries, even sarcastically.
It is also good to have someone check your maths if yours is a bit ropey.
Because one person is paying 89 more than the average, it does not follow that another person is paying 89 less. It might be 89 people paying 1 less.
