The Sun had its hat on immediately after last week's budget tax cuts.

"Reasons 2p cheerful", it declared. Two days later it was a bit moreovercast. It realised that the child tax credit - a key part of thestrategy to bring 200,000 children out of poverty - is a bitcomplicated.

"Claimants have to fill in a 12-page form after reading a 60-pagebooklet," its political editor announced. This spurred the paper intoaction.

It trumpeted its campaign to make sure readers are getting what isrightfully theirs.

This could be good news. A campaign organised by Britain'sbiggest-selling daily could be very handy.

Sadly, help from The Sun amounted to listing the helpline number andadvising people to visit the Revenue and Customs web site. Useful. Butpossibly not that much help to those in most need.
