"Young people are already surrounded by constant barrages of sexual images." Can't argue with that. But what should be the response to this barrage, as described last week by Conservative MP Angela Watkinson? She had it in a nutshell. The decision to provide contraception or abortion advice or treatment to underage children must involve parents.

Not quite sure how this helps. But she had a good go at explaining. Shealso told Parliament how her 10-minute rule Bill contained an importantcaveat to protect a child with violent or abusive parents.

Lib Dem MP Evan Harris didn't think much of her important caveat. Itinvolves advising a vulnerable young girl who is worried about hersafety to apply to a court for permission to keep her parents in thedark. Watkinson "misunderstands the real world in which some peopleexist," said Harris.

Some would have put it less politely.

- Biddy Baxter was dumbstruck and horrified she told the Radio 4 WorldTonight news programme. The legendary ex-editor of Blue Peter had justlearned that the programme had faked the result of a competition.
