This is not, strictly speaking, news. Most school crossing patrols havetales of crazy drivers who manage not to spot a great big lollipop. Theysomehow miss an adult in a high visibility jacket and children trying tocross the road. Or they spot them and decide to drive on throughanyway.
Experiences such as those of the Saffron Walden patrol - members havebeen hit three times by cars - has led the Local Government Associationto launch a campaign. Stop Means Stop is designed to remind drivers to,well, stop.
Perhaps a new branch of child protection is needed. Keep children safeby not driving a car at them. Or would that come under fire for being anextension of the nanny state?
