- Televison regulator Ofcom is asking for advice on what to do about adverts for food or drink that is high in fat, salt or sugar. Its consultation paper offers three quite complicated suggestions. It also welcomes ideas for a fourth - if anyone can think of one.

Much of the press coverage aired the human interest angle. Or cartooninterest. Goodbye to Gary Lineker, they warned. No more licensed cartooncharacters. Yet manufacturers' own cartoons, such as Tony the FrostiesTiger, would survive.

Ofcom had set out its objectives in introducing further regulation.Quite high on the list of aims was to "avoid disproportionate impacts onthe revenue of broadcasters".

The Sun got to the heart of this. It claimed that Ofcom has ruled out aban on junk food commercials before the 9pm watershed, "despiteadmitting this would have a massive effect on obesity". Why? Because it"would have cost broadcasters between 130m and 240m a yearin lost ad revenue".
