"Problem children targeted at birth", said The Independent, playing itcool. The Mail went for "Blair to target the Asbo babies". The Guardianfocused on the pre-natal: "We can clamp down on antisocial childrenbefore birth, says Blair".
The Mirror was terser: "Asbos in the womb". The Sun was uninspired."Blair bid to tackle yobs" could have used about any government schemein recent years. The paper saved itself for a huge gloat in its opener."Tony Blair last night backed The Sun's campaign, saying problem kidsshould be tackled before they are even born."
That's a merciful release and glad tidings all round. Once a PrimeMinister with a good majority backs a newspaper campaign, there's notmuch point continuing with it. Fingers crossed, that's good riddance tothe tabloid's Bang up the Gangs campaign.
