Autism at heart of school plans

1 min read Education Health
A centre for autistic children will be among the range of extended services at one of the first schools to be built under the government's Primary Capital Programme.

As well as the autism centre, the Yeovil school will also include a children's centre, a dedicated space for extended school projects, adult education facilities, a community cafe and a school kitchen to provide hot meals for schools throughout the town.

Oaklands Community Primary School will be built using the £6.5m given to Somerset County Council through the Primary Capital Programme, the primary school equivalent of Building Schools for the Future.

Richard Randall, the project manager at Somerset council, said the new school will replace two existing primaries in Yeovil. "We want the school to be a community learning facility that will cater for the town's children as well as adults and local community services."
