Asylum Seekers: Kent council costs to be investigated

The Home Office is sending finance experts to Kent County Council to investigate a row over asylum costs.

In October the council asked the government for 5m to deal with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (Children Now, 20-26 October 2004).

A spokesman for the Home Office said it was still investigating costs going back three to four years. Kent maintains asylum is a national issue and says it has received assurances from the Home Office that costs would be met in full by the government.
