Q: One of the young people I work with is about to leave her residential care home for a placement in a supported lodgings scheme. I am worried how she will cope as she hasn't lived independently before. Any advice?

The fact she is being moved into a supported lodgings project is a step in the right direction in her transition to adulthood. Many young people leave care and find themselves alone and in unsuitable accommodation such as bed and breakfasts or hostels where they may end up sharing with adults with complex issues. But this young woman will be in safe accommodation with support from a specially-trained worker who will help her gain the skills she needs to live independently.
