Ask the expert - What's your problem?

2 mins read
Raising funds to help young sex workers; a youth club staging its own Big Brother event; and problems around a staff member with HIV. Tracie Trimmer-Platman has the answers.

Q: I run a small charity in London working to improve the lives of young women who are sex workers. It is hard to raise money for the charity as it is just not a "nice enough" topic for people to want to support. Do you have any ideas?

A: Unfortunately, this problem is encountered by a number of charities as most donors want to know exactly where their hard-earned cash will go. Giving to charities that help disabled children or mistreated animals is easier for most people to relate to than providing counselling for young women selling sex. I would focus your fundraising efforts on women-only sexual and mental health trusts and organisations.
