How can I persuade neighbours that members in our project are not the trouble-making teenagers they read about in the news?

The hype and moral panic that surrounds youth crime and culture has an enormous influence on how the world perceives young people.

We can only help young people to challenge and rise above such discrimination if we encourage them to understand the stereotyping processes and the perceptions and expectations that develop as a result.

Part of youth culture is to create, interpret and identify images and brands that are unique and we should expect nothing less of our youngsters. We must encourage them to recognise the challenges that come with such cultural identity and how others may interpret it.
