How can I create a sense of wonder outside our nursery with no budget?
When I asked colleagues this question, they began to sing the first two verses of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. So open the doors and let the children out. Help them describe what they see: the feel of the wind, the scudding clouds across the sky, the sense of warmth or cold.
Trips to the park or any green space can yield so much. Rather than rushing for the climbing frame, get the children to hunt for conkers, seeds, petals, long leaves or short twigs. They should be encouraged to map and track like little explorers.
