We have made a really beautiful community garden over the past few months but I have found out that some young people come along at night and cut the herbs to smoke them. Is this harmful or illegal?
It really does depend on what the herbs are. If they are of the rosemary and thyme variety, then they're probably harmless enough. That said, no direct smoke inhalation can be a good thing and if they are adding them to tobacco then it will have the same harmful effects as cigarettes.
I'd make the young people aware that herbs are best used for cooking and eating, and organise some cookery sessions alongside drug-awareness workshops. In addition, they need to realise that the taking of herbs from communal property is an antisocial act in itself, depriving the local community of what is rightfully theirs.
