Arts: Youth Music starts leader programme

Two thousand people have already signed up to the scheme, which is an indicator of how much it is needed, said Ben Cole, Youth Music's principal officer in the policy and programme department and lead officer for workforce development.

"The idea is to build up a network of support for music leaders," said Cole. "We are looking to get 1,000 new people into the sector over the next year, and hope to smash our target of 11,000 in five years' time."

The MusicLeader scheme is being funded with 2.5m from the National Lottery via Youth Music, and will enable practitioners to access subsidised courses and network with peers.
