A scheme to help young people express themselves through art.

Project: Art project

Funding: £10,000 from v and Ipswich Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership

Aim: To give young people a platform to discuss problems and teach them about art and recycling

More than 50 young people from across Ipswich in Suffolk spent their October half-term holiday working on art projects giving them an opportunity to address problems they face.

The young people worked with youth workers, waste education, community safety and arts development staff from Ipswich Borough Council and professional artists to turn recycled materials into artwork, including a 3D papier-mache sculpture of a young person in a hoodie. The sculpture's stomach was hollowed out to make room for a TV screen showing a 15-minute DVD produced by the young people showing how they are affected by negative stereotypes of hoodie-wearing youths.
