- What does it do?
The Army Welfare Service provides welfare support for the UK's 107,000 service personnel and their families, plus the 200,000 members of the Territorial Army and Reservists. As well as providing support on issues from relationships and debt to bereavement, community support staff are involved in early years activities, play work, youth work and family education.
- Where is it based?
The service's headquarters are in Wilton in Salisbury. However, support services are delivered wherever service personnel are based in the UK, as well as in Germany, Canada and Brunei.
- What roles are available?
Community development workers and army welfare workers are the first point of contact. Staff can be promoted in both roles and are overseen by a welfare support officer. There are also volunteer opportunities through garrison-based organisation The Hive. There are around 100 full-time employees.
