Appeals widen to include fostering

Social Care
The government is to create an independent appeals system for foster carers who are rejected by fostering agencies.

The Children and Young Persons Bill will extend the existing Independent Review Mechanism, which currently only works with adoption cases, to include foster carers.

Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network, welcomed the proposal. "Unfortunately many foster carers will experience an allegation at some point during their fostering career and it is vital that we support them through the process of investigation. But this needs to be backed up with a commitment to provide fees and allowances during an investigation," he said.
