The young men had been working on a project that involved repairing and then racing an old car in August and September. But in the two months since the project ended, six of the them have been issued with ASBOs.
Quentin Gunderson, project manager of the scheme, which is run by The Mustard Tree Foundation, said that he felt the young men could have been kept out of trouble if the project had continued. "It is a shame that there has been a gap," he said. "All we are talking about is a few thousand pounds."
The car project has now secured 8,000 from the European Social Fund and restarted again last week.
