Anti-social behaviour: Young people get to meet the police

A project that enables young people and police officers to meet in an informal environment in an attempt to combat anti-social behaviour could be rolled out across London.

The first event based on the Street Beatz model, a partnership between the Metropolitan Police and the Peabody Trust, took place last week. Young people and police officers, including trainees, took part in activities such as music and drama workshops.

Andy Sheen, head of youth and leisure at the Peabody Trust, said the event had given both sides the opportunity to "challenge preconceptions" of each other. He admitted there had been "constructive conflict", as the young people highlighted their displeasure at being stopped and searched by police.

The project is funded by Westminster City Council.
