Anti-Bullying Strategy: Young people win new Diana award

Schoolchildren from Leicestershire have won a national award for their work on developing and implementing the county's anti-bullying strategy.

The 10-strong group, aged 11 to 16, are the first to receive the Diana, Princess of Wales Anti-bullying Award, which was launched at the fifth Diana Memorial Awards for Young People last night (November 23).

They helped devise questionnaires and developed a strategy that reflected what students wanted, including a successful peer-mentoring programme.

In the year since the strategy was introduced, the number of secondary school students who said they were regularly bullied dropped by 10 per cent, bucking national trends.

Rob Osborn, anti-bullying strategy manager for Leicestershire, said: "One of the reasons bullying has gone down is because it is now being given a high profile in Leicestershire."
