While the Government has given strong support to summer activities programmes, the rate at which they begin, end and shuffle between departments has prompted questions about how well they are delivered.
These concerns have been highlighted by doubts about the future of Uproject, an English scheme that helps school-leavers decide whether to continue with education, training or employment (YPN, 1-7 September, p2).
Uproject was funded for three years through 38.75m from the New Opportunities Fund, with an extra 600,000 of corporate funding from Barclays. That three years has now ended and no decision on its future has yet been made.
