If you want something doing, do it yourself. That adage has probably crossed the mind of many a harassed youth worker and groups of young people are taking it to heart too.
In Carlisle, five young people fed up with the lack of youth clubs have opened their own and across the country other groups of friends are doing the same (YPN, 25-31 May, p4).
A place to meet
In Leeds, seven young people got together to start their own youth club, Project 7. Daneen Williams, 18, chair of the group, says: "Young people had nothing to do and were fed up of the police harassing them. There was nothing going on apart from chilling out on the street. This just resulted in them getting into trouble at the end of the night."
