The youth work sector's ability to engage minority groups will come under scrutiny later this month, when the Government launches a green paper on equality.

Evidence suggests that while the sector might be keen to engage groups such as young people with disabilities, black and minority ethnic groups, Gypsy and Traveller young people and young people of different sexual orientations, it is not always successful.

Patchy results

John Kelly, a youth worker for UK Youth and writer of the organisation's resource pack for services working with disabled young people, So What is Inclusion?, says: "Youth services are making a lot of effort in terms of reaching diverse groups, but it is very patchy."
