Analysis: Policy - Looked-after young people - Care Matters plansshift up a gear

The Government's plans to improve outcomes for children in care will be published in a white paper later this year, it was announced last week (YPN, 18-24 April, p3). The announcement coincided with the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) publishing responses to its consultation on the issue.

Care Matters, a green paper published last October, set out a wide-ranging package of proposals aimed at improving the experiences and life chances of young people in care. These included earlier interventions to prevent children going into care, strengthening the role of the corporate parent, reforming placements and improving education.
