Money for education, money for diversion and money for treatment.
That is what is contained in a package of measures announced by the Home Office designed to signal the fact that young people are at the top of the drugs policy agenda (YPN, 12 February, p4).
Last year's Treasury comprehensive spending review allocated funds for dealing with drug problems, and just before Christmas the Government issued its revised drug policy. This announcement starts to outline how money is going to be spent on implementing that strategy.
Bob Ainsworth, Home Office minister, announced support of 107m over three years, the lion's share of which is to go on treatment programmes for young offenders, reflecting the new strategy's focus on class A drugs.
