A joint review of children's services has set out where the Government will focus its spending on children and young people for the next four years. With this area gaining political clout, Cathy Wallace looks at where the money is likely to end up.

Children and families are rapidly becoming the new NHS - the key areapolitical parties slog it out over in a bid to score points.

It seems we can barely turn the page of a newspaper without readingabout how the Conservatives want to "bring back the family" or howLabour, under the anticipated leadership of Gordon Brown, will beputting families first.

The Government has now tried to put its money where its mouth is byunveiling a joint review by the Treasury and the Department forEducation and Skills into services for children and young people. Thereview will inform the Comprehensive Spending Review, which will decideGovernment spending plans from 2008 to 2011.
