A wide-ranging survey of directors of children's services or directorswith partial responsibility for children's services by Children Now hasrevealed a national picture of rapid change amid uncertainty.
A third of the 150 local authorities in England responded to the survey,which asked for detailed information about councils' progress oninformation sharing systems, local safeguarding children boards,children's trusts, children's centres and play.
The figures show large strides forward yet at the same time directorsspoke candidly about their concerns over woolly guidance, lack offunding and government stalling.
Roughly three quarters of councils have directors of children's servicesor directors designate in place and of those that do not, mostconfidently expect to have a director in place by the Government'sdeadline of 2006.
