Having been met with too many blank stares when talking about the organisation she heads, Carolyn Caldwell, executive director of the National Assoc- iation of Connexions Partnerships, is keen to enlist the support of a celebrity to boost the profile of the national advice service for English teenagers.

Familiar faces

Popularity with young people should be the main consideration when choosing a celebrity patron, she argues - a principle reflected in the inclusion of names such as David Beckham and television duo Ant and Dec on the short list of would-be Connexions patrons (YPN, 24-30 November, p3).

Some celebrities already have experience of working for charities, such as Declan Donnelly, who recently promoted a "youth village" run by the Catholic Church's Hexham and Newcastle diocese (YPN, 24-30 November, p7).
