Alcohol: Drink awareness greater in young

Health
Young adults aged 18 to 24 are more aware of the number of units contained in a pint of beer and glass of wine than older drinkers, according to a government survey.

The study, which was conducted by YouGov, found that 69 per cent of drinkers aged 18 to 24 correctly stated that a pint of beer contained two units, compared with 57 per cent of drinkers over 55.

Thirty-two per cent of young drinkers correctly said that a large glass of wine contained three units, compared with just 18 per cent of drinkers over 55.

The findings were published as part of the Department of Health's new £10m Know Your Limits campaign, which aims to make the public aware of how much alcohol they are consuming.

The recommended daily allowance is two to three units a day for women and three to four units for men.
