Alcohol: Crime connection revealed in figures

Underage drinkers aged 10 to 17 who drink at least once a week commit more than a third of violent offences reported by the age group, Home Office figures reveal.

The 2004 Offending, Crime and Justice Survey also found one in seven 10to 15-year-olds had been able to buy alcohol once a month in the lastyear.

Two-thirds of the group who got very drunk in the past year said theirparents had been aware of this, leading the report to call for parentsto do more to curb their children's drinking.
