The force's latest campaign, Nightsafe, is aimed at young people aged 18 to 24. Posters showing a young female model and the caption "I'd rather have a laugh with you than see you in stitches" are being put up around the county. There are also adverts on buses, educational beer mats, and more than 10,000 advice cards to be given out by bar staff.
Stuart Farrar-Hayton, independent member of Northamptonshire Police Authority, said appealing to young people in this way has been effective in other parts of the country: "There are nice-looking lads in some of the posters as well."
The police force and police authority came up with Nightsafe in response to a dramatic increase in alcohol-related crime across the county. Between September 2004 and August 2005, 5,913 alcohol-related crimes were reported to police, including 3,841 violent offences.
