Advice and guidance: Women still suffer career advice bias

The survey found that young women are ambitious and optimistic, but 32 per cent of respondents felt their gender affected the careers advice they received.

Half of the 16- to 25-year-olds surveyed said they worry about how having children will affect their careers. In addition, 96 per cent wanted to have space to spend time to develop their confidence and self-esteem without the presence of boys.

Denise King, chief executive of Girlguiding UK, said: "We did a similar study in 1999. There is now more emphasis on having confidence and self-esteem, which we hope is a reflection of having a single-sex space.
