A down to earth message: Aliens promote traffic safety inManchester

Road safety went extraterrestrial last week as the We Believe In Little Green Men campaign kicked off in Manchester. The campaign is run by the Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative and aims to encourage children to take greater care when crossing roads.

The initiative is a Department for Transport scheme designed to tacklethe higher rates of child road injuries and deaths in deprivedareas.

A spokesman for the initiative said: "Children in deprived areas are upto five times more likely to be run over than those in leafy suburbs andso this campaign is designed to raise awareness in those areas." As partof the campaign, the aliens have been visiting schools. "We've onlyfrightened two children with the aliens, but so far most of them loveit," said the spokesman.
