Daily roundup: School privatisation, road safety, and how to spend the pupil premium

Leaked Department for Education documents reveal plans to privatise academies, road safety advertising falls victim to cuts, and an Ofsted report on the pupil premium, all in the news today.

Education secretary Michael Gove intends to privatise the running of academies, it has been claimed. The Independent on Sunday reports that leaked documents of a meeting reveal that senior DfE officials are considering  “reclassifying academies to the private sector”. Meanwhile, Gove is facing accusations that he misled parliament over claims of “bullying and intimidation” by advisers in his department. The Observer reports that a senior civil servant at the DfE received a secret payoff of about £25,000, after a lengthy grievance procedure involving members of Gove's team. The paper says that Gove has since denied knowledge of any allegations of misconduct by advisers in the department.
