14-19 Education: Group established to oversee reforms

1 min read

Jacqui Smith, the minister for schools and 14 to 19 learners, will chair the group. Members will also include Keith Ajegbo, head of Deptford Green School in Lewisham, and Sir George Sweeney, principal of Knowsley Community College.

The group will help the DfES draw up an implementation plan for 14 to 19 reform over the next few months. This will be published this autumn, following a period of consultation.

The developments were outlined by Education Secretary Ruth Kelly at a conference organised by the National Association of Head Teachers, the Secondary Heads Association and the Association of Colleges. All three bodies are calling on the Government to speed up 14 to 19 reform and to bring GCSEs and A-levels under a single qualifications framework.
