
I began my career working with children and young people as a detached youth worker and it was in this role that I learned to really hear the views of children; understand their needs and begin to understand the barriers they can face and how some of them can feel marginalised.
During this what I really learned was the power of bringing together a group of children and, through the provision of support and that listening ear, watching them flourish. It made all those cold and rainy nights in the streets trying to engage children worth it.
Therefore, I was encouraged to hear the key pledge from the government for a co-produced National Youth Strategy with a proposal for local youth transformation pilots.
