My progress plan for the year of the rat

February 2008 is the start of the Chinese year of the rat and it's time to Really Address Things.

Now that we all have had the opportunity to read and digest the centrepiece of the government's vision for children and young people, the Children's Plan, I am keen to understand how we can meet the UK's new aspiration to be the best place in the world for children to grow up.

This year, the eyes of the international community will be upon us: the handover of the Olympic torch after Beijing and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child's response to the UK's implementation of its recommendations both make 2008 the year to step up to the plate on young people's issues.
