
As we emerge into a post-pandemic world, other events are unfolding. The cost of living and mental health crises, the war in Ukraine, and the refugee and climate emergencies sit alongside the day-to-day pressures of inadequate resources and staffing, and understanding the fast-changing policy agenda in children’s services. It is overwhelming.
What can a leader do? Start small and start with you. Get yourself off the metaphorical dancefloor. Make your way to the balcony, find a space, sit down. Do anything which separates you from the hurly burly of what is going on. If you stay in the thick of things, you can’t lead effectively. Make space to think, reflect, return to your values and plan.
