YouthNet to drop volunteering website

1 min read Youth Work
Young people's charity YouthNet has announced it will hand over youth volunteering website Do-it to a new owner by the end of the year.

YouthNet and the Office for Civil Society (OCS), which helps fund Do-it, will decide on the new owner of the site.

The charity said it is open to all proposals, including applications from businesses.

CYP Now understands six permanent and four contracted members of staff work on Do-it, which links young people with volunteering opportunities.

Their futures will depend on the new owner’s decision about how to run the site.

YouthNet’s chief executive officer Emma Thomas said the charity had taken the decision because Do-it had “grown beyond YouthNet’s mission to support young people”.

“Young people are facing even more challenging times and need our support more than ever and we must focus solely on their needs,” said Thomas.

Do-it was founded in 2001 with the aim of connecting young people with volunteering opportunities, but its remit has since expanded to include adults.

YouthNet also operates TheSite, an information, advice and guidance website for 16- to 25-year-olds.

“We have exciting ambitions for TheSite, with plans to launch a new version this year," said Thomas.
