The Youth Advisers Panel visited a Prince's Trust project in London where vulnerable young people are decorating a room in a local after-school children's club.
The panel meeting, which will help inform future government policy on volunteering including the development of a new national programme, also discussed what support the government can give to young people wanting to volunteer and how the Olympics in 2012 could act as a springboard to volunteering.
Sean O'Halloran, 16, a member of the panel, said: "We discussed programmes that already worked like V, which show that a lot of young people do want to make a difference. We also said that some young people don't get the opportunity to take part in volunteering activities so we need to make it more accessible to everyone."
