Youth and community workers to strike over service cuts

1 min read Youth Work
Youth and community workers in Coventry are staging a one-day strike to protest at cuts being made to youth services in the city.

Members of the Community and Youth Workers' Union section of Unite voted to strike to highlight the effects of £660,000 worth of cuts that Coventry City Council is making to its youth services.

On Wednesday, 30 full-time staff and up to 50 part-time employees will be holding a demonstration at various locations across the city.

Around £300,000 has already been cut from Coventry's children's family education services with a further £360,000 proposed to be taken from the youth service.

The union said the cuts that have already been made have hit frontline services for primary aged children, including provision for children with special educational need and disabilities.
