Coventry youth workers strike over cuts

1 min read Youth Work
Youth workers in Coventry have held another strike in protest against proposed cuts to the city's youth services.

Around £300,000 has already been cut from Coventry City Council's children's and family education services with a further £360,000 proposed to be taken from the youth service.

The cuts were first mooted in August 2008, leading Unite's community and youth workers industrial sector, to begin industrial action.

The union claim this is their longest-running industrial action ever taken within youth work, having already held a strike in August last year and a rally against the cuts last February.

As part of the cuts, the council has confirmed it intends to reduce the terms and conditions for part time youth workers and outsource some parts of the youth service to the private and voluntary sector.
