Youth alcohol plan for Northern Ireland on the way

Health
Northern Ireland's health minister has said he will soon announce plans to tackle drinking among young people.

The news came as English Children’s Secretary Ed Balls and Home Secretary Jacqui Smith launched the Youth Alcohol Action Plan.
Michael McGimpsey said he was increasingly concerned about drinking among young people in Northern Ireland.
“I will soon be outlining a Young People and Alcohol Action Plan for Northern Ireland to provide a local solution for our local needs,” he said.
The Departments of Health and Social Development will meet in the near future to discuss the plan, and there are further discussions planned for this month, he said.
He added: “We need to change Northern Ireland’s drinking culture.”
