Young people to condemn riots at Westminster event

1 min read Youth Work Participation
Hundreds of young people and youth sector professionals are set to gather in Westminster today to condemn the rioting which took place across England.

It promises to give young people in the capital a chance to talk about the riots, discuss solutions to civic unrest and find ways to make a positive contribution to their communities. Organisers also hope it will go some way to preventing the stigmatisation of young people for the actions of a minority who were involved in the violence and looting.

Emily Shenton, one of the event’s organisers and spokeswoman for Arrival Education, said young people need to be given the opportunity to air their views on the riots, which have been largely unheard up until now.

"It will reveal to the country and the world the real face of London youth: motivated, articulate, law-abiding and committed to achieving success," she said.
