Council cuts in Devon have led to a sharp rise in the number of children with complex needs approaching voluntary organisations for help, according to a leading local youth charity.

Over the past year Young Devon said it has dealt with a 21 per cent increase in young care leavers, a 140 per cent increase in young people not in employment, education or training (Neet), 196 per cent more young people in care and 92 per cent more young people with moderate learning difficulties.

In addition, the charity has seen a 76 per cent rise in the number of young people it deals with who sleep rough, a 111 per cent increase in young people at risk of mental health issues and a 291 per cent increase in young victims of bullying.
