
The board wants to pilot a bespoke supported setting to address the high number of young people from the capital placed in custody on remand due to the shortage of alternative accommodation.
Children in London are more likely to be in custody than in any other region in England - there are nearly twice as many in custody than would be expected given the size of the population.
The YJB says the pilot - which it hopes to begin running in 2023 – will test the use of small units of supported accommodation with five or fewer children.
