Welsh children's hospital to go ahead

1 min read Health
The final phase of building Wales' only children's hospital looks set to go ahead, after the Welsh health minister promised to underwrite the project.

But yesterday health minister Edwina Hart said the Welsh Assembly Government would underwrite the £1.2m gap in funding for the hospital's running costs.

"I am not prepared to see this scheme held up any longer while commissioners resolve differences between the trust and each other," she told the Welsh Assembly.

Hart warned that she did not expect health trusts to call on the assembly government's funding.

"My action is designed to prevent the scheme from being held up further - not to let them off the hook in meeting their obligations," she said.

The Children's Hospital for Wales is based at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
