Wales: Investment in play

The Welsh Assembly has allocated 300,000 for a national centre for playwork, education and training.The Welsh Assembly has allocated 300,000 for a national centre for playwork, education and training.

The centre will work with local authorities to help improve the quality of supervised play facilities for children and work with partners to develop education and training for those with an interest in the provision of play services.

Mike Greenaway, director of Play Wales, said: "We think the centre will really change the way we deliver learning for playworkers here, which will ultimately change the quality of experience for children across Wales."

Meanwhile a fostering agency has launched a back to basics play initiative designed to get fostered children playing outdoors.

The Pathway Care Group launched the scheme in South East Wales to coincide with Play Day on August 1 (Children Now, 1-7 August).
