The first attendance statistics released by the Department for Education show that 24,000 children classed as vulnerable by the government attended emergency schools on 17 April.

This number has dropped from around 65,000 on 23 March, the first full day of school closures in the UK.

DfE guidelines state children with a social worker, those classed as “children in need” by local authorities, children with child protection plans and those under EHC plans are “expected” to attend school along with the children of key workers.
